Laura Whelan is a Project Lead Intern and Research Assistant at the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP). To date, she has acted as project lead for more than six teams, including leading upwards of five summits across Africa, Latin America, North America, Europe and Asia, in addition to leading research in global governance and African civil society. She also served as Project Lead for the 2018 Global Go To Think Tank Index, producing the report which has now been downloaded over 75,000 times. Laura also currently leads TTCSP’s media relations and digital communications.
Laura has recently co-authored a book with the Director of the TTCSP, Dr. James McGann, on global think tanks and global governance, entitled “Global Think Tanks: Policy Networks and Governance (2nd Edition)”, published in the fall of 2019 by Routledge as part of their series on Global Institutions. Her additional publications include the Summit Reports for the 2019 Think Tanks in Europe and North America: Democracy in the Age of AI; 2018 Latin America Think Tank Summit; 2018 Global Think Tank Summit; 2018 Africa Think Tank Summit; and 2017 Africa Sustainability Forum (all available via scholarly commons).
In addition to TTCSP, Laura has been a Market Research Intern at the Urban Institute’s Office of Technology and Data Science, examining the role of emerging technologies in public policy research, and she has worked as a Chatham House Intern in the Communications and Publishing Department, conducting archival research for Chatham House’s upcoming centenary. Laura is an undergraduate student at the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in Philosophy, Politics and Economics and minoring in Architecture and Art History. She will graduate a Benjamin Franklin Scholar in May 2020.
