MED 2017 PROGRAMME
The 3rd edition of RomeMED extends the discussion on the Mediterranean to new actors and topics. In 2017, the programme includes 10 PreMED meetings, focusing on specific sectors and challenges hinging upon the Mediterranean. The opening session sets out the theme for the whole conference, which aims at sketching out a positive agenda for the region. The discussion is then structured around 8 Plenary meetings, exploring the four thematic pillars of RomeMED (Shared Security; Shared Prosperity; Migration; Media, Culture & Society). ‘A View From’ sessions leave the floor to political leaders from seven countries (Iran, Libya, China, Egypt, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar), who are asked to share their perspectives on the global Mediterranean. Four ‘Dialogues’ offer a platform for discussion among policymakers, experts and intellectuals on several regional topics. Furthermore, Policy Forums ask representatives of leading think tanks, heads of professional associations, business leaders and directors of international organizations to address specific regional issues. Bringing this all together, a closing section summarizes the main results and policy outcomes of this year’s edition. As a whole, RomeMED brings together 45 Heads of State, Ministers and top representatives of international organizations, 800 leaders in business, politics and culture, and 80 think tanks and international institutions from 56 countries.
