The Ranking Process
Early to Mid March: An ‘input letter’ is distributed to expert panelists from the previous year asking for suggestions and constructive criticism.
March through May: A team of interns analyzes incoming responses and makes appropriate changes.
Early June: A letter is sent out to all think tanks asking for 2011 expert panel nominations.
Mid June: All nominations for the expert panel are due for consideration by Dr. McGann.
Late June: All known think tanks are asked for the first round of nominations via email and survey link.
Mid August: Think tanks that receive five or more nominations are placed on a rankings ballot and included in an online survey distributed to the entire think tank universe to determine the finalists.
Mid September: An Expert Panel evaluates each nominee based on specific criteria that accounts for the regional biases often encountered in the public policy research.
October-November: The members of the Expert Panel receive information packets by email in order to facilitate the final selection process.
